Position: Treasury Operations Analyst
Organization and Context:
The Georgian Financial Markets Treasuries Association (GFMTA) is looking for Treasury Operations Analyst to join the Treasury Operations Center for the Treasury Management System (TMS) project. The TMS is a shared, multi-tenant deployment of Nasdaq Calypso, hosted on National Bank of Georgia (NBG) infrastructure, serving five Georgian commercial banks. The project is now entering active implementation.
The Treasury Operations Center serves as GFMTA`s first line of support for all Calypso production issues. The analyst triages incoming issues from participating banks, resolves them where possible, and escalates them to Nasdaq or NBG (Level 2/3 support) when necessary. This is a permanent role that begins during the implementation phase, offering the successful candidate a unique opportunity to learn Calypso directly from the Nasdaq delivery team and GFMTA`s Treasury Lead before the platform goes live.
The role reports to the Treasury Operations Manager and is part of a small, specialized team. It offers an exceptional career development opportunity: an analyst joining during the implementation phase will gain deep, hands-on expertise in both Calypso and bank treasury operations, a highly sought-after skill set that remains rare in the Georgian market.
Engagement Terms:
Engagement type: Permanent employment with GFMTA
Reports to: Treasury Operations Manager
Start requirement: The role requires the successful candidate to join during the Execution phase
Key Responsibilities:
During Implementation:
- Shadow the Nasdaq implementation team and participate in sprint reviews, delivery sessions, and validation activities to develop a strong understanding of Calypso configuration, data structures, and treasury workflows.
- Take part in a structured knowledge transfer program led by the Senior Treasury Lead.
- Gradually contribute to issue triage, operational readiness activities, and knowledge base documentation as platform expertise develops.
During Validation
- Provide first-line issue triage and support during SIT and UAT for Bank 1.
- Coordinate testing activities with participating banks, including test windows and validation checkpoints.
- Log, categorize, and route defects, distinguishing between configuration-related issues and software defects.
- Assist in tracking issue resolution and ensuring timely communication among stakeholders.
From Go-Live Onward
- Deliver ongoing Level 1 support to all participating banks, managing the daily support queue under the guidance of the Treasury Operations Manager.
- Maintain Calypso configuration documentation and knowledge base content, enabling recurring issues to be resolved at Level 1 and reducing reliance on Nasdaq escalation over time.
- Support each bank`s rollout cycle during progressive deployment.
- Coordinate with NBG`s infrastructure team on environment-related issues that may impact Calypso availability and performance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of support processes, operational procedures, and service quality standards.
Required Competences:
Essential
- Basic understanding of treasury asset classes, including FX, fixed income, money market instruments, derivatives, and repo/securities finance, at a level sufficient to follow and assess business-level issues. This knowledge may come from academic study, professional qualifications (CFA or equivalent), or prior exposure in any role; direct front-office experience is not required.
- Experience using issue tracking or helpdesk tools (JIRA, ServiceNow, or equivalent) is considered a strong advantage.
- Analytical mindset and structured approach to problem-solving: ability to read a reported issue, break it down logically, and document it clearly.
- A conceptual understanding of mechanics of trade settlement, payment flows, and financial messaging concepts (SWIFT MT/MX); operational expertise will be built on the job.
- English proficiency essential for written communication with Nasdaq support teams; Georgian required for communication with bank staff.
- Genuine interest in financial technology and willingness to develop deep, hands-on expertise in the Calypso platform during the implementation phase. The Calypso knowledge is built entirely on the job, no prior platform experience is expected.
Desirable
- Academic background in finance, banking, economics, or a related field.
- Exposure to treasury or capital markets operations in any capacity - internship, back-office, or analytical role.
- Basic familiarity with IFRS 9 classification and measurement of financial instruments.
- Conceptual understanding of any TMS or capital markets platform.
What Success Looks Like:
The successful candidate joins with a strong foundation of theoretical knowledge and technical skills and, through direct collaboration with the Nasdaq delivery team during the implementation phase, develops hands-on expertise in Calypso. Following go-live, they take ownership of real-world issues raised by participating institutions, resolving the majority independently and continuously expanding their expertise with each case. Within a year of go-live, they become a recognized Calypso specialist, possessing a rare and highly valuable skill set in the Georgian market that extends well beyond this role.
